This is a great translation, with several maps and extensive notes and afterword, which help readers understand the novel and history in many respects. I strongly recommend this translation to the readers. However, do not buy the abridged version of this translation. (search for more)

Translated by C. H. Brewitt-Taylor. This translation is excellent in literature style. However, it uses the Yale system for translating the Chinese names. For example: Liu Pei, Ts'ao Ts'ao, and Sun Ch'üan. This system is used in many countries, but not in China. The translation of Moss Roberts and the online Romance of Three Kingdoms use the modern Pinyin system. For example: Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Sun Quan. (search for more)
