ACT III

I had an interview today, too. ҽҲμһ ̸
I had a great interview Ҳμһκܾʵ
with Admissions at Columbia University. Columbiaѧ Ա
Really?
What did they say? ˵ʲ
Will you get into the school? ᱻ¼ȡ
Well, they didn't say anything for sure. ûκȷ Ĵ𸲡
But I figure that with my grades and with my personality, ƾҵijɼ ҵƷ
I'll have no problem. Ҳ⡣
Columbia's a terrific school. ColumbiaһܰѧУ
What are you going to do? ʲ
Do? I don't know. ʲ Ҳ֪
I also applied to NYU. һŦԼѧ
You sound excited about Columbia. ColumbiiaѧԾԾ
What's your problem, Mike?
Indecision. Indecision. ²˾ ²˾ ġ
It's not easy, ʵڲ
and this is an important decision we have to make. DZ һش
What about you?
How was your interview with Michigan? Michiganѧ ̸
The interview was fine. ̸úܺá
It's a great college. һôѧ
It is. ǵġ
My father would like me to go there. ҰְϣȥǶ
He and my Grandpa both went there. үү 顣
Great medical school, too. кܺõҽѧԺ
I know. ֪
You can follow in your father's footsteps. Ը㸸׵
Ah! I'd like to follow in my own footsteps, Mike. Լ Mike
What do you want to study? ѧʲ
I've been thinking. һֱڿǡ
I think I want to study journalism ѧѧ
to be a reporter--a newspaperman. һ Ŵҵ Ա
You do a pretty good job on the Riverdale High School paper. RiverdaleУɫ
And I've been thinking about it a lot lately. һֱʹ ˺ܶࡣ
Have you discussed it with your parents? ͸ĸ
No. But I have to. û д˱Ҫ
OK. Let's talk. ̸̸ɡ
Hi, Son. Is everything all right? һж
Hi, Dad. Everything's fine. ְ֡һжá
I was just waiting for you to get home
so we could talk. ø̸̸
Anything special you want to talk about? ʲҪ̸
There is, Dad. ְ֡
There is, Dad. ְ֡
I'm listening. Ǿ˵ɡ
Well, I know you and Mom have given up a lot ֪ ʡԼ
to save money for my college tuition. Ǯ׼ҵĴѧѧѡ
We want you to go to college, Robbie. ϣϴѧ Robbie
I know. I do. ֪һġ
But? ǻʲ
Well, I've thought a lot about which college, Ϊһ ѧ˺ܶ
and one of them is Columbia. һColumbiiaѧ
Columbia? Why Columbia? Columbia ΪʲҪȥColumbia
First, they have an excellent School of Journalism. и о
They do. ǵġ
And your friends are planning to go to Columbia? Ҳ׼Columbiaѧ
That's only part of it. ֻһԭ
It's complicated. ԭ ӡ
I'll try to explain. һᾡ
Mike and I had a hamburger this afternoon, and we talked. Mikeһ һۡ
Yes?
Well, we talked about a lot of things. ̸˺ܶ
He applied to Columbia, Columbia
and his interview was very successful. ̸ܳɹ
He thinks he'll be accepted, ᱻ¼ȡ
and he really wants to go there. ȷʵȥ
and he really wants to go there. ȷʵȥ
Dean Rafer called me today. Raferν绰
He told me he was very impressed with you. ӡ ܺá
He's a nice man. Ǹ
He was very kind. ˺Ͱ
He told me
you had some doubts about wanting to go to Michigan. Michiganѧ Щǡ
Yes. I do. ǵ ǡ
I'm just not sure about what I want to do. Ҳ֪öʲ
That's OK. ȥҪ
You understand? ½
Let me tell you something, Robbie. Ҹһ Robbie
Something that might be surprising to you. һҲԾ ¡
What? Tell me. ʲ ˵
Well, Grandpa wanted me to study engineering, like him. үүϣ һѧ
Well, I wasn't clear about my future, ҶԼδ Ҳ
but I knew engineering was not for me. ̶֪Ҳʡ
What did you tell Grandpa? ζүү˵
The truth. ʵʵ˵
Then you're not upset ûие
about my not wanting to go into medicine? Ҳѧҽ
I'm not upset at all. һҲ
I'm just happy that we're able to talk about it. Һܸܹһ ¡
I'm just happy that we're able to talk about it. Һܸܹһ ¡
I am too, Dad. Ҳһ ְ֡
I suppose you want to apply to Columbia. ҲCollumbiaѧ
Yes, but I also want to apply to several other colleges. ǵ һ 뼸Ĵѧ
I thought you wanted to go to Columbia. һΪֻCColumbiaѧ
Well, I might want to go to Columbia. ҲȥColummbiaѧ
But I might not. Ҳȥ
I just want to be able to make my own decision. ֻܹԼ
You're a real Stewart! Stewarttҵ
And if I think about it long enough, you never know ... һֱ Ļ ˵
Never know what? ˵ʲ
If I make my own decision, ԼĻ
I might choose Michigan. ˵ѡMichiiganѧ
Robbie, you're something! Robbie й
You know, when I was your age, Ҫ֪ ʱ
I said exactly the same thing to Grandpa. Ҹүү˵ͬ Ļ

Do I want to go to the University of Michigan?
Dad and Grandpa went there.
Or to an lvy League school,
like Columbia University?
Or maybe NYU, the New York University.
Mike applied there.
I've also been thinking about going to a state school.
SUNY, the State University of New York at New Paltz.
How can I compare them?
I think I'd like to go to a small school.
But Michigan in Ann Arbor,
Michigan is not small.
Columbia is smaller than Michigan.
SUNY in New Paltz is smaller than either Michigan or NYU.
And Columbia is smaller than SUNY.
It's a smaller school for undergraduates.
I want to go to a school that is close to Riverdale.
But Michigan is far away.
SUNY is closer to Riverdale.
NYU is closer than SUNY.
And Columbia is the closest.
Wow, that's a lot to think about.
Which one is the smallest?
Columbia.
Which school is the closest to Riverdale?
Columbia.
Which school is the cheapest?
SUNY at New Paltz.
Which school would you choose?
