在看过我们的客户提交上来的个人陈述和推荐信的初稿后，留学快递工作室的美国编辑们发现很多中国学生的文法错误是相同的。编辑们强烈要求在工作室的网站上发一篇专门纠正中国学生易犯的标点符号错误的文章。                             两个结构完整的英语句子一定要用连词或分号连接                             这些都是编辑们在学生的稿件中发现的错句：        Your  paper is very impressive, it inspires me a lot.        I am  interested in your research, it matches my experience.        This teacher  taught me to transform my paralyzing fears into a determined drive for success,  my life then changed.       把以上三个句子翻译成中文，标点符合是没有问题的；然而与汉语不同的是，英语中的逗号没有连接两个分句的作用。在这种情况下，我们要么把逗号改成分号，要么使用相应的连词表示其逻辑关系。这三个句子可以分别更正为：        Your  paper is very impressive;it inspires me a lot./ Your paper is very impressive，  and it inspires me a lot.        I am  interested in your research;it matches my experience./ I am interested in  your research, because it matches my experience.    This teacher taught me to  transform my paralyzing fears into adetermined drive for success; my life  then changed. / This teachertaught me to transform my paralyzing fears into a  determined drive forsuccess, so my life then changed.                             并列成分中最后一项之前的逗号不能省略                                         下面是标点符号出了小错误的句子：      In middle school I grappled with chronic mental downside, a physical  manifestation of the fear, guilt and anxiety.        I love  charcoal drawings, oil paintings and black-and-white photography.       在列举几个并列成分时，我们通常会用and来连接最后一个部分，而中国学生极容易忽略在and之前加一个逗号。上面两句应该做这样的改动：        In middle  school I grappled with chronic mental downside, a physical manifestation of  the fear, guilt, and anxiety.        I love charcoal  drawings, oil paintings, and black-and-white photography.                             不同符号在引号里或引号外的位置不同                             美式英语中引语的符号与中文有较大的不同。看以下几个句子：        错：He  said: "Never again will we fail."       表示“某人说”后面的冒号应改为逗号。应改为：         He said,  "Never again will we fail."       错： "Never again will we fail." he  said.       如果引语在前面，“某人说”在句后，应在引语的引号内用逗号终结引语。应改为：          "Never again will we fail," he said.                             错： He said, "Never again will we fail;” we nonetheless  give a try.    错： He said, "Never again will we go so far:” those very words.       冒号和分号一律放在引号以外。应改为：        He said,  "Never again will we fail"; we nonetheless give a try.        He said,  "Never again will we go so far": those very words.                             在你的留学文书或套磁信中，当提到教授论文或著作中的某一句时，需要标上页码数，页码的双括号应标在引号之后、句末符号之前。如下：          "...government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall  not perish..." (p.76).        Americans  fought bitterly so that "government of the people, by thepeople, and for  the people, shall not perish" (p.76); yet seldom....                             留学申请资料是非常正式的文书，标点符号马虎不得。英文中有句话是 “Any writer can get better  when it comes to punctuation.”标点符号是容易忽略的角落，也是很能鉴别英文书写能力高低的细节！
