Biodiesel is mainly used in the furnace, heavy-machine and agro-machine such as agro-tractor in China now. No standard is available at present, so the two largest fuel distributors, SINOPEC and CNPC, don't permit their refinery and gas station to blend biodiel into petrodiesel. Of course, in some regions, some tests are performed to use B20 in buses, such as Changde City, Hunan Provice. Finally, some high-grade biodiesel is exported to Europe.

The uses of biodiesel in route system can not only decrease the pollution of exhaust emissions from trucks or buses in the cities, but also save investment by using the existing storage and gas stations. There is about 18M tons diesel consumption in China in 2002, and 61M tons is expected in 2020. If in order to improve the lubricity performance, low sulfur and low aromatic diesel is blended with biodiesel with an addition of 2%, 12.2M tons biodiesel will be needed in 2020.
