BEC中级阅读技巧（I）

BEC中级阅读部分共分为五部分，依次为搭配题、填句子题、单项选择题、完形填空以及改错或是校对题。本文将介绍第一种题型的形式、出题思路、做题技巧以及注意事项，希望对大家能够有所帮助。

第一部分      搭配题

这部分的文章由具有相关主题的4篇短文（例如关于“聆听别人意见的重要性”或是关于“如何同你的老板打交道”）构成， 或者是一篇正文分为4节，尽管4篇短文背景相似，但也有各自特有的内容，短文前面标有A-D的字母。文章的前面有7段陈述，或是以句子形式出现或是以短语形式出现，其内容与A-D四篇短文有关。要求考生将这7段陈述与相对应的文章搭配起来。形式如下：
1.       the contact between coach and employee not solving all difficulties at work
2.       the discussion of how certain situations could be better handled if they occur again
3.       a coach encouraging an employee to apply what has been taught to routine work solutions

7. coaching enabling a company to respond rapidly to a lack of expertise in a certain area

                       Coaching
A
  Coaching involves two or more people sitting down together to talk through issues that have come up recently at work, and analyzing how they were managed and how they might be dealt with more effectively on subsequent occasions. Coaching thus transfers skills and information from one person to another in an on-the-job situation so that the work experience of the coach is used to advise and guide the individual being coached. It also allows successes and failures to be evaluated in a non-threatening atmosphere.

The coach professionally assists the career development of another individual, outside the normal manager/subordinate relationship. In theory, the coaching relationship should provide answers to every problem, but in practice it falls short of this. However, it can provide a space for discussion and feedback on topics such as people management and skills, behaviour patterns, confidence-building and time management. Through coaching, an organization can meet skills shortages, discuss targets and indicate how employees should deal with challenging situations, all at short notice.

这部分题考察的是考生辨认具体的细节和信息的能力，要求考生在短时间内从文章A-D中找到1－7陈述所对应的语句。其难度在于文章中的对应部分并不是7个陈述的简单重现，而是七个陈述的改写，所以考生做题时不能期望找到完全对应，而是要找具有相同或是相似意义的语句来作为答案。
这部分题的做题步骤是：
第一，        先浏览7个陈述，划出每个陈述的关键词或者词组，像以上所列的陈述的关键词、词组分别是：not solving all difficulties (1), better handled if they occur again (2), apply what has been taught to routing work situations (3), a company to respond rapidly to a lack of expertise (7).
第二，        将关键词、词组存储到大脑中，快速浏览文章，寻找关键词、词组的同义表达。在寻找过程中可能要不断回头看陈述中的关键词、词组，因为很难将7个关键词、词组一直保留在大脑中。很多考生的反映是浏览一遍往往不能找出所有的答案，需要进行第二次搜索。
以上第一小题 “the contact between coach and employee not solving all difficulties at work”
对应的是文章C中的“In theory, the coaching relationship should provide answers to every problem, but in practice it falls short of this.”其中 “provide answers to every problem” 是“solving all difficulties”的同义转述，第一小题关键词组部分的 “not” 对应的是文章C的“but”。
同样的道理，第二小题 “the discussion of how certain situations could be better handled if they occur again”对应的是文章A中的 “how they might be dealt with more effectively on subsequent occasions.”其中 “be better handled”的同义陈述是文章C中的 “be dealt with more effectively”, “if they occur again”对应的是文章C中的“subsequent”。

由此看出，这部分的难度并不大，因此大部分考生能够在这一部分取得较高的分数。但如果要想取得更好成绩，甚至在这一部分要答满分，还要注意以下几点：
第一，        要细心，找到文章中所对应的部分后，最好把这句话读完，而不是仅仅去对应某个单词或是词组。例如陈述中有选项如下：This conference center is well known for the quality of its food. 但是有两段文章中会出现与 “food”对应的语句： “our highly experienced catering staff are responsible for an exciting variety of menus at affordable prices.” “This restaurant also enjoys an excellent reputation, offering everything from a middy sandwich to a formal dinner.”这里答案应该是后者，因为它还提到了“an excellent reputation”, 对应选项中的“well known”。
第二，        要了解某些商务词汇的意思以及某些常用词汇在商务环境下的意思。例如上文提到的 “catering”在商务英语中表示“餐饮”， 公司中会有 “Catering Department, Catering Supervisor”, 我们还会谈到 catering industry (餐饮业)。
总之，在掌握了足够的商务词汇的基础上，准确的划定关键词，细心搜寻，在阅读第一部分拿到满分并不是难事。
